A képeslapon a salgótarjáni Római katolikus plébániatemplom.
A képeslapon olvasható a plébánia rövid története. Salgótarján Nógrád-vm. legrégibb egyházai közül való. Plébániája még középkori. Legrégibb írásos bizonyítékunk - a pápai, egyházi adószedő-lajstrom - már 1332-37.-ből említi, de kétségtelenül még régibb eredetű. Levéltári kutatások híjján történetét sem ismerjük. A reformáció, a törökvilág, kurucháboruk stb. viszontagságait csak a 18. szd.-ban heverhette ki, mert anyakönyveit csak 1746-tól vezetik pontosan. Jelenlegi temploma ismeretlen eredetű: a legrégibb, egyhajós, barokkstilű része a 18. szd.-ból (1781-89 körül?) való. Ez leégett 1820. s Jankovits Antal kegyúr állította helyre s meg is nagyobbította. Tornyát 1866. Luby József építtette. 1900. teljesen átalakították s közepét háromhajóssá bővítették. 1914. uj szentélyt, oratóriumot és sekrestyét építettek hozzá. Főoltárát 1923. Bátky József faragta. Salgótarján anyaegyháza a leányegyházaival (Baglyasalja, Zagyvapálfalva, Zagyvaróna) és 10 bányateleppel együtt ma kb. 25,000 hívőlelket számlál.

Története: Ambrus nevű papját 1262-ben említették, a plébánia 1331-37 évi pápai jegyzékben szerepelt.
Középkori templomáról nem sokat tudunk. 1868-ban egyáltalán állt a templom, bár a plebánosok neve 1665-től ismert s a fa haranglábat 1713-1862 között említették.
A karzat az 1821-es tűzvész után, a torony 1866-ban épült, majd 1900-ban a barokk hajót K felé két hármas hajós neobarokk résszel bővítették. Ekkor készültek a fiók tornyok is. 1914-ben kapta mai formáját a három hajó K felé történő további bővítésével.
Romer Flóris által említett 1535-ös imuniskulás harangja már nincs meg. Berendezése XX. századi.
