Az alapító hutamester, Szvoboda Károly érdeme, hogy megindult a gyárban a kulturális élet. A korábbi években megszűnt Palackgyári Munkások Társas Egylete helyébe létrehozta Szvoboda Károly 1927-ben az üveggyári olvasókört, amelynek keretében 200 kötetes könyvtár létesült, dalkör, színjátszó csoport és népi zenekar működött.
