A felvételen az 1956. augusztus 1-én átadott salgótarjáni Állami Áruház épülete látható.
Az áruház tervezője Vass Antal (1917-1988), akit Ybl Miklós-díj II. fokozatával tüntették ki, többek között a salgótarjáni Állami Áruház tervezéséért. Az áruház Salgótarján főutcája és a Fő tér sarkán álló egyemeletes épület. Jellegzetessége a földszinti árkádsor, és az emeleti szint szinte tömörnek ható homlokzata. Az eredeti épület a tetőfödémben levő ablaksorral megvilágított, galériával kialakított belső térrel rendelkezett, amit mára már átalakítottak.
Az Állami Áruház később Centrum Áruház, ma Star Áruház.

A felvétel az 1937-ben alapított salgótarjáni Magyar Vasötvözetgyár Rt. első kohó alapjai lerakását örökíti meg 1938-ból. A gyárban az üzemszerű termelés 1939 elején indult meg.
