A Nógrád Megyei Tanács Székháza parkjában került felállításra 1967. november 7.-én. Heitler László Marton Lászlóról 1985-ben megjelent könyvében a jelentősebb köztéri alkotások között említi. A rendszerváltás után lebontották, egyes források szerint 1991-ben ellopták.

A felvételen Mikszáth Kálmán mészkő talapzaton álló bazaltból faragott portréja látható. Id. Szabó István alkotása. A szobor 1960-ban készült. Az alkotás a volt Mártírok Úti Általános Iskola (ma Salgótarjáni Általános Iskola Kodály Zoltán Tagiskolája) előtt található.
