Az emléktáblát idős Szabó István készítette, ünnepélyes avatására 1986. szeptember 6-án került sor a bányamúzeum névadó ünnepségén. A tábla anyaga rózsaszín mészkő és homokkő. 1998. szeptember 5-én újra elhelyezték Pothornik József emléktábláját a bányamúzeum falán.

A felvételen a Dornyay Béla Múzeum Bányászati Kiállítóhely épülete látható. Az épületben a 2018-ban átadott bányászattörténeti kiállítás I-VI. egysége várja a látogatókat. Az épület udvarában - a bányagép-skanzenben - láthatók az egykor használt eszközök, szállítóeszközök és egy méretarányos aknatorony is. 1892-1970 között a bányában összesen 54 db villamos mozdony üzemelt. A skanzenben a szállítóeszközök sorában láthatunk: 50. pályaszámú villamos mozdonyt, melyet a Ganz Villamossági Művek gyártott 1955-ben; 24 személyes személyszállító kocsit; személyszállító külszíni kocsit; billenős csillét; három tonnás szénszállító kocsit; bányabeli fékes kocsit.

Az emlékmű egy háromszor három méteres járható üvegfödémmel fedett, földalatti bemutatóhely, amely egy bányarészletet ábrázol, vájár figurával, csillével. Előtte emléktábla található, melynek felirata: "Szerencse fel! Szerncse le! Ilyen a bányász élete" Részlet a bányászhimnuszból". Az emlékmű ünnepélyes átadására 2011. szeptember 3-án szombaton került sor.
