Eredetileg 1987. júliusában salgótarjáni bányamúzeum előtt leleplezték le és koszorúzták meg dr. Vitális Sándor mellszobrát. A bronz szobor Mészáros Mihály szobrászművész alkotása volt. A szobrot ellopták. Az emléktáblát 2017-ben felújították. A tábla szövege: "DR. VITÁLIS SÁNDOR A FÖLDTUDOMÁNYOK DOKTORA, KOSSUTH-DÍJAS, A VÍZFÖLDTAN KIMAGASLÓ SZAKTEKINTÉLYE TISZTELETÉRE.
